Yuexi County is located in the hinterland of Dabie Mountains in western Anhui Province, in the eastern section of the Jianghuai watershed. The west borders Yingshan County of Hubei Province, and the north is connected to Huoshan and Shucheng counties. The total area is 2,398 square kilometers. The total population of the county is 401,000. The Yuexi Lantern Festival has flourished during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Its organizational form is generally formed spontaneously by residents of a village or clan, and activities are carried out before the Lantern Festival. Various forms of folk art are performed and displayed in the lantern festival to celebrate the harvest, sing the prosperity of the times, reconcile with the countryside, be friendly with neighbors, and pray for well-being.
