In the mountains and gullies in the northwest of Jiajiang County, there are bamboo forests everywhere, which are lush and green, with clear water sources, and the papermaking industry is very prosperous. The papermaking industry is particularly developed in Macun Township, which is known as the "hometown of Chinese painting paper". Jiajiang Chinese painting paper has a long history. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, it was designated as tribute paper and "paper for literary examinations". During the Anti-Japanese War, the famous Chinese painting master Mr. Zhang Daqian came to Shiyan Village, Macun Township twice, and worked with the trough household Shi Guoliang (the eldest son of the famous trough household Shi Ziqing) and others to develop calligraphy and painting paper, which improved the quality of Jiajiang calligraphy and painting paper. As a result, Jiajiang calligraphy and painting paper was named "Daqian Calligraphy and Painting Paper", and a "Daqian Paper Workshop" was established in Shiyan Village, Macun Township to forever remember the contribution made by this great Chinese painting master to the Jiajiang paper industry. Jiajiang calligraphy and painting paper has five characteristics: "fine texture, tender oil, iron plate (cotton toughness), white, and hand-made (whole selection)", which is called "five skins", with good water absorption performance and excellent ink retention effect. The county's traditional Chinese painting paper production reached 3,690 tons in 1998, ranking first in the country. It was exported to more than 10 countries and regions including Japan and Singapore. It was rated as an excellent product of the provincial light industry system and included in the book "Tianfu Famous Products". Jiajiang County is the hometown of Chinese calligraphy and painting paper, famous at home and abroad. It has a long history, and the bamboo paper making technique is included in the first batch of national intangibles. Jiajiang is also a well-known porcelain capital in western China, a national advanced greening county, a national martial arts hometown, a national advanced county for mass sports work, the first yangko hometown in the country, a national science demonstration county, a national family planning quality service county, a model county for comprehensive social security management in Sichuan Province, and a provincial health county. "The moon on Mount Emei is half a circle in autumn, and its shadow falls into the Pingqiang River. I set out from Qingxi to the Three Gorges at night, thinking of you but not seeing you in Yuzhou." The "Pingqiang River" described by the great Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai in his poem is the Qingyi River flowing in Jiajiang County. From its creation in the Tang Dynasty to its prosperity in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jiajiang bamboo paper gradually matured and became famous. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, Jiajiang bamboo paper was designated as "tribute paper" by the emperor, and was designated as "paper for literary examinations" and "paper for the palace" during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. During the Anti-Japanese War, Jiajiang became an important production area for paper in the rear area, with a large output, a wide variety, good quality, and sophisticated technology, all of which were the best in the country. During this period, the master of Chinese painting, Mr. Zhang Daqian, visited the homes of Shi Ziqing and Shi Guoliang, two large trough households in Macun, Jiajiang, twice to develop new paper together. The test paper was successful, and the painter praised it after trying it out, saying, "The paper used by Emperor Qianlong is just like this. China has two papers, Xuan and Jia, which can be called two treasures", which promoted Jiajiang paper to the same status as Anhui Xuan paper. In order to commemorate Mr. Daqian's contribution to Jiajiang paper, the People's Government of Jiajiang County named the painting and calligraphy paper after his reform as "Daqian Painting and Calligraphy Paper". In 2006, the bamboo paper making skills of Jiajiang were successfully applied for the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage. In 2008, the Ministry of Culture of China officially awarded Jiajiang County the title of "Hometown of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Paper". On June 2, 2009, the Jiajiang Painting and Calligraphy Paper Association was officially established, which marked that the Jiajiang Painting and Calligraphy Paper Industry has moved from dispersion to unity and from disorder to standardization. It will play a positive role in promoting the development of Jiajiang Painting and Calligraphy Paper Industry, improving the image of the production area, and building the "Hometown of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Paper". Jiajiang handmade papermaking began in the Tang Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jiajiang's paper industry entered a period of prosperity, and the county's paper production accounted for one-third of the country. According to historical records, in the early years of Emperor Kangxi, the two papers "Long Curtain Wenjuan" and "Fang Xi Tu Lian" sent by Jiajiang were personally tested by Emperor Kangxi and were designated as "Wenwei Juan Paper" and "Palace Paper". Jiajiang paper is famous. In addition to being sent to the capital city for the imperial examinations and the imperial palace, merchants from all over the country gathered in Jiajiang to purchase Jiajiang paper products. Therefore, Jiajiang has the reputation of "the hometown of Shu paper". During the Anti-Japanese War, the number of paper producers increased to more than 10,000 households, with more than 10,000 employees and an annual output of more than 10,000 tons of paper. At the same time, the master of Chinese painting, Mr. Zhang Daqian, visited Jiajiang twice to discuss with the major paper producers how to improve the quality of Jiajiang calligraphy and painting paper. In January 1945, in order to commemorate Daqian's contribution to improving the quality of Jiajiang Chinese painting paper, the Jiajiang County Government named Jiajiang Chinese painting paper "Daqian Calligraphy and Painting Paper". The annual production of long-fiber six-foot calligraphy and painting paper was exported to the United States, Japan and other countries that year. The annual production of various types of handmade paper is more than 10,000 tons, of which 10,000 tons are calligraphy and painting paper mainly made of Xuan paper.
