Well salt sun-drying technique
The salt wells and salt pans in the Tibet Autonomous Region are located in Naxi Township and Quzika Township in Mangkam County, Qamdo Prefecture. The salt production here has a long history. According to research, the local area has begun to dry salt in the Tang Dynasty. Drying salt in salt wells is the most primitive way of salt production, which is currently unique in my country and even in the world. The well salt drying in Naxi Township and Quzika Township still follows the traditional method. Salt farmers use wooden buckets to carry brine from the brine wells on the Lancang River, pour it into their own brine pools to air dry and concentrate, and then pour it into the salt pans to air dry and crystallize into salt. This traditional way of salt production has extremely primitive production tools and processes. Mangkam is the first stop of the "Ancient Tea Horse Road" from Sichuan to Tibet. Historically, it has made important contributions to the transportation of salt on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. The production of Mangkam well salt is a great wonder in the history of human civilization. The unique and primitive salt drying technique condenses the hard work and wisdom of the local people. The prosperity of the salt industry promoted the development of Mangkang, making it an important window for foreign political, economic and cultural exchanges in southeastern Tibet.
