🎧  Listen to Introduction

Qiongzhong has always been known as the "hometown of Li folk songs". There are many Li folk singers and a wide variety of folk song tunes. Folk songs play an important role in daily life. People will sing impromptu during daily production labor. Love songs account for the majority of folk songs, such as "Anti-Marriage Song", which is a long narrative song. There are also labor songs, wedding songs, grand ceremony songs, "being a ghost" songs, etc. Li folk songs are divided into traditional ancient folk songs sung in the Li language and folk songs influenced by Han culture sung in the Hainan dialect of Chinese according to their forms of expression. Li songs have a set of beautiful tunes, similar to singing styles, such as the "Luoli Tune" in Qiongzhong and Baoting counties, and the "Shuiman Tune" in Qiongzhong County. In 2008, Qiongzhong Li folk songs were included in the national "intangible cultural heritage" protection list. The Li people are the earliest residents of Qiongzhong. In the long history, the Li people have created a rich and colorful folk culture, among which Li folk songs are a treasure of national culture. Since the Li people do not have their own writing system, folk songs can only be passed down through oral singing. Li folk songs can represent, record, convey emotions, and express grievances. Whether in production, life, marriage, housewarming, or even funerals, the Li people like to communicate in the form of folk songs. Folk songs have become a link for the Li people to exchange information.
