The traditional clay-slice pottery making technique of the Li nationality has a long history. Analysis of pottery fragments unearthed in Hainan shows that earthenware pottery making had already appeared in the early Neolithic period. In the "Hainan Article" of "Zhufan Zhi" by Zhao Rushi of the Song Dynasty, it is said: "According to the "Sui Zhi", (the Li nationality) is light and brave by nature and uses clay as a cauldron." The clay-slice pottery making technique appeared before the clay-strip pottery making technique, and its history is even longer. It is a relic of prehistoric culture. The clay-slice pottery making technique is a living fossil of my country's early pottery making technique, and it has important value for the study of the history of human social development and the history of handicraft development. Pottery made by the clay-slice pottery making technique has been used by the Li people for generations. The modeling art of pottery presents the artistic attainments and aesthetic concepts of ancient Li women, and it still has ornamental and collection value. Due to the impact of mechanized production tools, handmade pottery has lost its original survival status, and its skills have also been lost. At present, only in the remote Li village of Pobei Village, Gaojia Village Committee, Yacha Town, Baisha Li Autonomous County, where transportation is inconvenient, there are still famous inheritors, and their skills are in urgent need of rescue and protection.
