Shaoyuan Mythology Group
Shaoyuan mythology group, one of the ancient Chinese myths and legends. It refers to the general term for the creation myths and mythological prototypes circulated in Shaoyuan Town, Jiyuan City, Henan Province. Shaoyuan has been circulated with stories such as Nuwa since ancient times. In the north of the town, there are Black Dragon Mountain where the evil dragon was beheaded, Aobei Mountain where the broken turtle stands on the four poles, Suoquan Ridge where reed ash is locked, and Yinhe Gorge where stones are refined to repair the sky. There are many mythological prototypes and ancient place names, ancient cultural relics, and ancient relics. The rich content of Shaoyuan's creation myths reflects the relationship between the ancestors of the Central Plains and the Chinese nation, as well as the contradictions, conflicts and struggles between man and nature, man and society, man and man, and man himself, and moves towards harmony in the process of unity of opposites, accumulating the humanistic spirit of the nation. Shaoyuan is an ancient town with a history of more than 7,000 years. Even if it is counted from written records, it has evolved for more than 3,000 years. With the change of administrative divisions, it has many names in history, such as Zhao, Pi Shao, Shao County, Shaozhou, Shaobo County, Shaoyuan County, Wangwu County, Shaoyuan Pass, and Shaoyuan Town. The story of Nuwa has been circulating in Shaoyuan since ancient times. There are famous mountains and rivers in the north of the town, such as the Black Dragon Mountain where the evil dragon was beheaded, the Aobei Mountain where the broken turtle stands on the four poles, the Suoquan Ridge where the reed ash is locked, and the Yinhe Gorge where the stone is repaired to repair the sky. These are all prototypes of the "Nuwa repairing the sky" that later generations are happy to praise. They are large in scale and formed naturally. The image is lifelike and the system is complete, which is unique in the country. After examination and certification by many experts and scholars, the original place of Nuwa mythology is the ancient Shaozhou area centered on Shaoyuan Town, Jiyuan City. There are many Nuwa myths in Shaoyuan and surrounding areas, which are relatively concentrated and face the whole country. Other places do not have them. The ancient place names, ancient cultural relics, and ancient relics scattered on the land of Shaozhou fully prove the opinions of experts and oral transmission. From the perspective of geography and geopolitics, Shaoyuan is backed by Taihang in the north, Zhongtiao is a barrier, the Yellow River is winding in the south, and it faces the towering Funiu Mountain. There is the beautiful Wangwu Temple of Heaven in the east, and the spiritual land of Sanjin in the west. The area of 50 miles is a loess shallow hill belt. In the 26th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1761 AD), Xiao Yingzhi, the magistrate of Jiyuan County, visited Shaoyuan and was shocked by the scenery. He then composed a poem: "The west of Taihang Mountain is connected to Xicheng, and thousands of rugged hills are hanging in the distance. The mountain passes are connected to the Jinshuiqu, and the rock passes are locked in the ridges and clouds are swirling." It was this hot land that nurtured the ancient ancestors and also gave birth to the Chinese culture. In the fight against natural disasters, they used the mountains, rivers and objects around them and their extraordinary imagination to weave strange and bizarre creation myths to show the majestic spirit and high wisdom of fighting against heaven and earth. On June 7, 2008, the "Shaoyuan Myth Group" applied by Jiyuan City, Henan Province was approved by the State Council to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
