Baiyangdian is a national key tourism development zone with a water area of 366 square kilometers. It is the largest freshwater lake in the North China Plain and is located in the hinterland of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. Baiyangdian has 143 lakes and ponds connected by more than 3,700 trenches, forming a huge water maze. The lake area is beautiful and rich in products. The scenery changes with the seasons. The reeds are green, and the lotus, water chestnut, cattail and reed sway in the wind. The lotus flowers are in full bloom, fish jump out of the water, and crabs are fat and delicious. Baiyangdian dough sculpture artists have been ingenious since ancient times. They have been passed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years. They are generally used as sacrifices for folk funerals, and dough figurines, birds, beasts and other works are made for children during festivals. Baiyangdian people live on the water all year round. The lotus, reeds, water plants, fish, birds, mandarin ducks and other works of Baiyangdian have become the materials for Baiyangdian dough sculptures. People pour their beautiful emotions into the dough. The Baiyangdian dough art is delicate and auspicious. The main themes include fish, shrimp, crab, waterfowl, butterflies, flowers, sails, dragons, and phoenixes. The characters include the Eighteen Arhats, the Three Kingdoms generals, the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, Water Margin, Yue Fei Biography, and various stills of Chun Sao's Breaking into the Hall, Forced Marriage, Sun Wukong's Three Fights with the White Bone Demon, the True and False Monkey King, and the Two Dragons Playing with Pearls, the Cock Playing with Peony, the Peacock, the Eagle, etc. The works are all lifelike. After hundreds of years of development and inheritance, the Baiyangdian noodle art has formed its own unique artistic style. However, with the continuous influx of new trends, the Baiyangdian noodle art has gradually been ignored by people, and there is a lack of successors to the technical inheritance. It is on the verge of being lost, so rescuing, protecting and inheriting the Baiyangdian noodle art is of great significance to promoting traditional folk crafts and developing and exploring Baiyangdian tourism and cultural products.
