Shuangbai County, located in the hinterland of central Yunnan, east of the Ailao Mountains, at the junction of Shuangbai County, Chuxiong City, Shuangbai County, and Yimen County, has a long history and culture, unique characteristics, abundant products, and especially hot valley crops are famous all over the world. People here have had an indissoluble bond with cranes since ancient times, and worship "cranes" as a sacred object, forming an ancient national culture of "cultivating immortals and respecting cranes". The festival is held in - on the 12th day of the eighth lunar month every year, and large-scale material exchanges and national folk art activities are organized during the festival. The origin of the festival is related to a local folk legend that "cranes defeat monsters that harm local people, and teach people to read and write, and know books and reason." In many villages such as Ganhai Zibo Xichang, not far from -, at this time, the masses imitate the various postures of cranes and dance "crane sheng" to worship the brave and witty cranes. According to legend, 800 years ago, a monster came from the far south and blocked the Shadian River with its huge body. Suddenly, the sky was dark, the river was blocked, and many crops on both sides were drowned in the muddy water. Many people lost their lives in this flood. The remaining people escaped and ran to a high mountain far away from the river bank. However, the muddy water kept chasing people. Wherever people went, the water flooded. People were about to suffer a catastrophe. Only to hear a few "ga ga" calls from the vast sky in the north, and then a five-colored auspicious cloud flew out from the thick clouds. A white crane with a dazzling red head came on a rhinoceros and the auspicious cloud. The rhinoceros quickly blocked the water flowing from the Yindaiqing River and the Puyan River with its huge body. The crane bravely rushed to the monster and fought with the monster. With the crane's wit and strength, the monster was finally defeated and fell into the river at dawn. The crane was tired, so it took a rest by a pond on the bank of the Shadian River. When it was about to take off, it heard the crowing of a golden rooster. It could no longer fly into the sky and became a fairy, so it settled down for a long time. The rhinoceros turned into a mountain, guarding the arrival of each flood peak day and night. When the flood was big, it drank the water hard to prevent it from causing disasters. From then on, there were no more major floods. The feathers dropped by the crane when fighting the monster turned into various tools that people had never seen before. People used these tools to dredge the river and make the river water rush forward. After the cranes settled down, they guarded people day and night, taught them to grow rice and raise fish. In summer and autumn, the rice flowers on both sides of the river were fragrant and the fish were fat. It was known as the land of fish and rice in Shuangbai. Until now, the rice in Shuangbai has excellent texture and the fish has delicate meat, which is deeply loved by consumers. At the same time, the cranes taught people to read and write, and to be knowledgeable and sensible. Since then, many educated people have come out of Shuangbai, and many of them have gone overseas to study. The legendary mountain is called "Jitian Mountain" by the people around it. Every year on the second day of the Chinese New Year, people of all ages go there to worship. The pond where the cranes live was dug bigger by later generations and called "Crane Lake". The area around the pond became the main place for local people to relax and entertain. After the successive party committees and governments raised funds from various parties for renovation, it was later called "Crane Park". According to legend, after the cranes settled down in the village of -, people also moved in one after another to live with the cranes in order to get more protection from the cranes. The people who moved in were well-fed, prosperous, and happy. Over time, more and more people came, and it became the largest village within a radius of dozens of miles, and was later called "-". Looking at - from the mountain opposite the village of -, the topography of - is like a white crane bowing its head to drink water from the Shadian River. Legend has it that the crane was tired of fighting with the monsters and fell into the river to drink water. The legend of the crane is widely circulated in -, and people express their respect for the crane in various ways. There is a legend on the mountain behind the village of - that the crane once settled and looked up to the east. Local people came here to worship the gods and make wishes, and people called it "Crane Temple". In many villages such as Ganhaiziboxichang, which is not far from -, people imitate the various postures of cranes and dance "Crane Sheng" on major festivals to worship the brave and resourceful cranes, and to inspire people to admire light and stay away from darkness.
