Dai papermaking craft

Yunnan
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Handmade papermaking is one of the well-preserved traditional handicrafts of the Dai people. The handmade papermaking in Manzhao Village uses the bark of a local tree called "kudzu tree" as raw material. After soaking, steaming, pounding, stirring, filtering, pouring into molds and drying, it can be made into primitive handmade paper. In 2006, the Dai papermaking craft was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists and the first batch of intangible cultural heritage protection lists of Yunnan Province.
