Every year on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the crops are ripe and about to be harvested, the Gelao people choose a day to eat new food (also called tasting new food), worship their ancestors, thank their ancestors for their kindness, and bless the coming year with good weather and good harvests. This is the Gelao Tasting New Food Festival. Due to the different customs of each village and surname, the time of the Tasting New Food Festival is not consistent in different places. The Tasting New Food Festival of the Gelao people living in De'e Township is basically held on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. The Gelao people have the custom of killing cattle during the Tasting New Food Festival. Before the festival, everyone raises money to buy a yellow bull for the festival. On the day of the sacrifice, the housewives of each family go to the fields to pick new food and make sacrifices to their ancestors. It is not too much to pick new food from anyone's house on the Tasting New Food Festival. On the day of slaughtering the cow, a lunch is eaten. Each household sends a representative. Three or five people from each village far away bring back beef. All the people present, regardless of age, participate in the blood of the cow (except the heart of the cow, which is kept for family sacrifice) and the offal of the cow. Then the heart of the cow is divided equally among the households participating in the festival. After the division, a man wearing a straw raincoat and a bamboo hat climbs onto the roof and sings with everyone to receive the beef and the heart of the cow. The man sings loudly: This year goes, next year comes, the cold goes, the hot comes, the hungry goes, the full comes, God, God, ancestors, ancestors, please bless the children of the mortal world, so that next year there will be good weather, millet twisted into ropes, corn like cow horns, and we will have food and clothes. We miss the old man in heaven. We miss the old man in heaven. After this person finishes singing, everyone takes back the beef they have been allocated, cuts the beef into pieces one inch wide and five inches long, and hangs them on the kang with small wooden sticks to smoke and roast them half dry for use during the festival. On the day of the New Grain Festival, all men, women, old and young in the village stop working, put on new clothes, and happily go to the fields to pick new grains. It is not surprising that anyone can pick some grains from any family. After picking the new grains, the previously roasted beef and beef heart are mixed with new melons and vegetables and cooked into a bowl, and a small bowl of sweet wine is poured. A bowl of steamed fragrant rice and a bowl of newly picked new rice are placed on the square table under the altar to worship the ancestors. Then three ears of the longest and largest rice and two ears of millet are selected and hung on the kitchen to show the harvest. After the sacrifice, people start to taste the new grains to celebrate the festival. Now, the autonomous county attaches importance to the excavation and development of ethnic culture to develop De'e tourism. The Gelao New Grain Festival has also been developed into a product of De'e tourism. A Gelao New Grain Festival activity base has been built in Dashuijingtun, Moji Village. Every year, the De'e Gelao New Grain Festival is held here. On this day, people from various villages and tourists from inside and outside the county come to participate and visit. As this festival has only been developed for a short time, it is still organized by the government and sponsored by the masses, and is not yet very mature. However, after several years of holding it, the Party Committee and government of De'e Township are also accumulating experience and exploring ways to make it another wonder of ethnic culture in De'e Township after the Miao Tiaopo Festival and the Yi Torch Festival.
