Guangzhou Pan Gaoshou Pharmaceutical Factory was originally founded by brothers Pan Baishi and Pan Yingshi in Gaodi Street in the 16th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1890) as "Pan Gaoshou Changchundong Pharmacy". It has been passed down by the family for more than 100 years. In the 1930s, a new cough and phlegm-relieving drug was developed and named "Pan Gaoshou Chuanbei Loquat Dew". Since then, the Pan Gaoshou Pharmacy has been established and quickly became famous for its loquat dew. It has successively set up factories in Shaoguan, Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore to expand its business. In the 1950s, the public-private joint venture Pan Gaoshou United Pharmaceutical Factory was established. In the early 1990s, it was transformed into Guangzhou Pan Gaoshou Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and has been in operation ever since. Pan Gaoshou is located in Guangzhou, a commercial and trade metropolis in southern my country. The special geographical environment and fierce commercial competition have formed its unique traditional Chinese medicine culture. In view of the hot and rainy weather in Lingnan, the unpredictable climate in winter and spring, and the common diseases of colds and coughs that people are prone to, Pan Gaoshou has insisted on developing cough and phlegm-reducing drugs for nearly a hundred years, forming a series of medicines with snake gall, Sichuan Fritillary and Loquat Paste as the top brand, reflecting its unique brand culture. Pan Gaoshou adheres to the traditional moral norms based on integrity. In the late 1930s, when the market was flooded with imitation and counterfeit medicines, his successor Pan Yusheng resolutely sold all his properties and used the proceeds to replace the drug packaging. He specially printed the aphorism "Advise people not to impersonate Pan Gaoshou, and leave some good fruits for your descendants to collect" on the new packaging, highlighting the business philosophy of keeping the truth and accumulating good deeds. Pan Gaoshou is also good at using newspapers, radio stations, movies, stations, docks and even street lamp poles for publicity and advertising, and even setting up stalls on the streets to provide free medicines to passers-by, forming a set of effective marketing strategies, and his medicines soon became a household name. In 2008, Pan Gaoshou's traditional Chinese medicine culture was selected into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. Affected by climate change, environmental pollution, and the decline of raw material quality, Pan Gaoshou's traditional pharmaceutical technology has been marginalized due to the strong competition from Western medicine and the rise of new pharmaceutical technologies. This has seriously threatened the inheritance of Chinese medicine culture. If it is not protected, it will be in danger of being lost.
