Chinese medicine must be processed to meet the requirements of TCM diagnosis and treatment and flexible use of medicine. The processing of medicinal materials is a major feature of TCM clinical use of medicine, and it is also an important link to remove toxicity and improve efficacy. Taigu County is located in the central part of Shanxi Province, in the Jinzhong Basin. It was founded in the Western Han Dynasty and has a long history. It has developed culture and commerce. It is one of the birthplaces of Shanxi merchants. The local natural environment is good, the water quality is clean, and it is rich in various minerals. The medicinal material resources are very rich, and there is a strong TCM cultural tradition and pharmaceutical industry. In the past, due to the concentration of wealthy households in Taigu and their extravagant lifestyle, the demand for medicine was extremely urgent. Therefore, Taigu's pharmaceutical industry flourished at the right time. As early as the 20th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1541), the "Yishentang" medical clinic (also a pharmacy) (the predecessor of Yellow River Chinese Medicine) opened in Xinglong Lane in Taigu City. Due to its excellent medical skills and convenient medicine preparation, the reputation of "Yishentang" has spread far and wide. The long-renowned Qing Palace holy medicines "Guilingji" and "Dingkundan" are produced in Taigu. These famous medicines all have mysterious and unique processing methods, forming a regional Chinese medicine processing culture. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, there were more than 20 famous medical clinics and pharmacies, including Yishengtang, Yiyuantang, Guangshengyu, Guangshengyuan, Guangyiyi, Guangmaoxing, and Guangyuanxing. These medicine shops learned from the strengths of many companies, and kept improving in the fierce competition. They inherited and created a number of classic famous medicines with outstanding efficacy and unique Chinese medicine processing techniques, such as steamed rehmannia with fresh milk, roasted seahorse with ghee, roasted cloves with pepper water, roasted psoralea corylifolia with rice wine, roasted pilose antler with aged vinegar, and vinegar-processed Tianxiong, etc., all of which are processing methods not included in the Chinese medicine books of all dynasties. However, as modern medication methods tend to be routine, the traditional "one prescription, one method" medication model no longer exists, and many special and effective traditional processing techniques are gradually forgotten. In addition, the few existing skilled pharmacists keep their processing methods, which they have summarized through long-term work, secret. Traditional processing technology is facing the situation of decline or even loss, and it is in urgent need of protection.
