Angong Niuhuang Wan is a traditional specialty medicine of Taigu "Guangyuyuan". In the 11th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign (1885), "Guangshengyuan" (the predecessor of "Guangyuyuan") vigorously reformed the production of finished medicines and invited the famous doctors Lv Zhenyin and Gao Piming from "Yufengtang" in Qi County at that time to improve the old products and develop the traditional medicine Angong Niuhuang Wan with its own characteristics. It became famous for its remarkable effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, calming the nerves and opening the mind, and has been widely circulated to this day. The prescription of Angong Niuhuang Wan consists of 11 medicines: bezoar, turmeric, concentrated powder of buffalo horn, coptis root, cinnabar, gardenia, -, scutellaria, pearl, borneol, and musk. When making it, pearls need to be water-fly or crushed into very fine powders, cinnabar and - need to be water-fly into very fine powders respectively; coptis root, scutellaria root, gardenia and curcuma root need to be crushed into fine powders; then bezoar, buffalo horn concentrated powder, musk and borneol need to be finely ground, mixed with the above powders, sieved, mixed, and an appropriate amount of refined honey needs to be added to make large honey pills, which are then coated with gold. Angong Niuhuang Pills are a traditional Chinese medicine prescription for invigorating the mind, and are the most famous emergency medicine in traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine calls them "the three treasures for invigorating the mind (warm disease)" together with Zixue Pill and Zhibao Pill, and regards them as the first of the "three treasures". This product clears away heat and detoxifies, calms the nerves and invigorates the mind, and is used for fever, evil entering the pericardium, high fever convulsions, coma and delirium; stroke coma and encephalitis, meningitis, toxic encephalopathy, cerebral hemorrhage, sepsis with the above symptoms. In modern medicine, it is often used to treat epidemic encephalitis B, epidemic meningitis, toxic dysentery, uremia, cerebrovascular accident, toxic hepatitis, hepatic coma and other diseases, which are caused by heat toxins trapped in the pericardium. The production process of Angong Niuhuang Pills is complex and unique, especially its preparation, pill pushing and wax hanging processes, which are difficult to match with other similar productions. These production techniques are the long-term wisdom of the Chinese working people and are difficult to be replaced by modern technology.
