The legend of Dianshan Lake is a story that the common people tell in a narrative way, using local dialects and taking Dianshan Lake as the main line, combining characters, historical events, animals, specialties, and customs as prototypes to develop rich imagination. It can be roughly divided into the evolution of place names, character legends, historical events and customs, and animal specialties. There are currently 67 stories of Dianshan Lake legends compiled in a book. The legend of Dianshan Lake has a long history, covering the period from the Qin Dynasty to the modern times, spanning more than 2,000 years. Many legends use local dialects, and are interspersed with colloquialisms and folk slang. The original "local culture" reflects the distinctive characteristics of the water town, conforms to the public's taste, and has a strong folklore. For a long time, the legend of Dianshan Lake has been preached and spread by people in groups of three or five in the fields, eaves, and bridges in a self-entertaining way. After the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the economy and culture of Jiangnan developed rapidly, and Dianshan Lake became a place for scholars to live in seclusion, study, and write. There are poems such as Wei Jing's "Dianshan Lake", Yang Weizhen's "Dianshan Lake", and Wang Chang's "Looking at Xuedian Lake from Dianshan Mountain after the Rain". During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Zhujiajiao became a prosperous city. The strange stories and folk legends of Dianshan Lake were processed and improved by storytellers, and spread to Shanghai, Kunshan, Taicang and other places. In 1979, Zhujiajiao established an amateur storytelling team to tell the legend of Dianshan Lake. In the 1980s, relevant institutions organized experts to deeply explore and sort out the folk legends circulating around Dianshan Lake, which were included in the books "Chinese Folk Tales Complete Book Shanghai? Qingpu Volume", "Folk Fun Talk", "Xuedian Runzhu" and so on. As a kind of folk literature, the legend of Dianshan Lake has long been rooted in the cultural life of the masses and is deeply loved by the people.
