Shanghai style acrobatics is a Shanghai acrobatics art with distinct Shanghai regional characteristics and style. Acrobatics originated in the north, and the first written record of Shanghai was found in the Shenbao in 1874. Shanghai style acrobatics inherited the origin of traditional Chinese acrobatics, absorbed the essence of foreign acrobatics and circus, and was deeply influenced by Shanghai culture, which made the characteristics of traditional acrobatics, which mainly focused on pure technical performance, evolve into a unique style with diversified performance methods, comprehensive program performance, artistic technical difficulty, international viewing concept, and contemporary development trajectory. In the early years of the Republic of China, as Shanghai became a metropolis in the Far East, some foreign circuses and acrobatics from all over the country came to Shanghai to perform, and Shanghai gradually became a gathering place for Chinese and foreign acrobatics. At this time, a group of famous figures appeared, such as: Southern magic masters Mo Wuqi, Zhang Huichong, Mo Feixian, Deng Wenqing; ventriloquist artists Yin Shilin, Sun Tai, Zhou Zhicheng; acrobatic artists Pan Delin, Qiu Shengkui, Tian Shuangliang, etc. In 1951, the Shanghai People's Acrobatic Troupe was established with the Shenzhou Magic Troupe and Qiu's troupe as the foundation, together with 47 people including Li Dianqi, Zhang Liyong and Wang Yuzhen. Subsequently, more than 30 acrobatic troupes, societies and archives in Shanghai formed professional groups such as the Jiangnan Acrobatic Troupe. After that, some of the backbones were transferred to the Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe, which accumulated strength for the development of the Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe. For more than half a century, the Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe has actively inherited, innovated and developed the Shanghai style acrobatic art, created a large number of plays (programs) that are popular with the audience, and promoted the development of Shanghai style acrobatics.
