Qishan Quzi

Shaanxi
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Qishan Quzi was influenced by the Book of Songs, Tang Poems and Song Ci, and is the product of the combination of Yuanqu and folk music. Its tunes and instruments are similar to those of Meihu, and it is said to be the predecessor of Meihu, but it has developed slower than Meihu. It is still a sitting singing form, with relatively simple content. A song is sung continuously without dialogue in the middle. A tune is played before singing. Whether it is singing or prelude, the speed is relatively slow. Qishan Quzi is divided into two types: Yuexian and Pingxian. Yuexian is for adults to sing, and Pingxian is for children to sing. The Qishan Quzi usually refers to Yuexian Quzi. There are more than 100 kinds of lyrics in Qishan Quzi, about 70 of which are commonly used, and there are more than 10 tunes. Nearly 100 singing tracks represented by "Borrowing Water" and "Poems" in "Golden Bowl Hairpin" are still talked about by Qishan Quyi enthusiasts. After liberation, Quzi artists compiled some new tracks with modern themes, such as "Poor People's Rise", "Ten Good Agricultural Cooperatives", "Zhao Yiman", etc., which integrated new content into Qishan Quzi. The lyrics of Qishan Quzi are elegant and regular, with a strong poetic atmosphere, and the rhyme and parallelism are exquisite. The singing rhythm is slow and relaxed, and it often expresses historical allusions and emotional stories of people who have experienced the world. It sounds sad and lingering. The instruments do not use big gongs and drums, but only three-stringed instruments, occasionally accompanied by banhu, erhu, bamboo flute, huaizi (bell) and wazi (bamboo board). There is very little noise and abruptness. It is a Qishan folk music with fixed tunes, melodies and traditional singing repertoires. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
